368. Bankruptcies Thanks to Covid

More than 3,600 companies have filed for bankruptcy in the first half of 2020 and this number will most certainly increase. 366. New Rules for Working

In the 17th century people would regularly work more than 40 hours a week; at one point it was upwards of 60. But that doesn't mean we need to keep plodding ahead with the old 9 to 5 routine. Many of us are still making the adjustment to working from home and some people report actually working more. However, it might be time for a change. Perhaps the focus should be on productivity rather than time. If you can get your job done in 4 hours, why be on the clock for for 8? If we cut down on the BS we actually get something done!

269. The Pursuit of Happiness

You can't be happy all the time. You would make yourself miserable. Embrace the bad times, the sadness, the anxiety, the pain. They make the happiness so much more rewarding.   And at work, happiness is frowned upon - better to start the day as a grumpy sack.

268. Another Triggered Monday

TGIM and Matt and John talk smack about hauling your ass into the work week!

267. TWE Survival Series|A Guided Meditation with Matty K

People are working harder and not "getting ahead". How much is Washington helping them? How much should Washington help them?  Is the game rigged or can people still work themselves up from nothing and reach the top?

265. Sick Days

Work sucks.  So call out sick.  Tell them you have diarrhea or whiplash or emotional distress;  just about anything goes.  In Germany, you can tell your boss that you're just too hungover; the government says it's fine.

264. A Post Holiday Monday Celebration!!!

Get back to work, how else are you going to pay off all the money you spent on useless crap on Black Friday?!  On this TGIM episode, Matty K and John strategize on how to spend the least amount of money on holiday gifts and still look like the hero...Buy gift cards and use 50-70% of the value, then gift it to close family and friends - its a brilliant way to knock out holiday shopping and save money.

263. TWE Survival Series|A Guided Meditation with Matty K

Matty K guides you into the depth of your soul and your tummy with this guided meditation.  Matty's secret to happiness? A big old breakfast every morning. He is late all the time but that doesn't bring him down because his tummy is full.

262. The Black Friday Fable

Watching a grown woman yank a doll out of the hands of a three year old will put anyone in the holiday spirit.  Hopefully, the 80% off of the TV was worth getting trampled in a Consumer Stampede.

261. Dopamine Fasting

Sometimes you need to turn everything off and be quiet. Read a book, meditate, whatever.  It seems like common sense. As usual, the brain trust in Silicon Valley has to make a religion out of it!  Matty K and John discuss and swing on the end of the spectrum and OD on Dopamine!  Enjoy!

260. Amit Kapoor and the Ease of Living Index

On today's podcast, John talks with Amit Kapoor about how GDP is a poor measure of Human Well Being.  Amit is the chair for the Institute for Competitiveness in India and they have created an Ease of Living Index to measure the average citizen's quality of life as opposed to tracking economic output!  Makes sense!  Fascinating discussion - we cover numerous topics including happiness, climate change, Trump, quality of life, social media, and Hong Kong!  Enjoy!

What happens if alcohol was off-limits?  Matty J and John jump into a thought experient and they both get lost in the weeds...Would people still attend professional sports events if no alcohol was available? Would people go to parties where no booze was served? What would they talk about? Would it be awkward and painfully boring? Or would people discover a new and rewarding way of living?

257. Tom O'Neill | Author of 'Chaos'

254. Does GDP translate into quality of life?

The GDP is often used to measure the well-being of a nation. However, it only measures the "gross", not the "net". Such costs as the impact of the manufacturing of cars on the environment and the costs of income inequality are not factored into the equation. There is more to people's well-being than producing goods.

He has been described as erratic, impulsive and incompetent by his own generals. People believe what they want to believe.  And will Donny dodge yet another bullet with the impeachment process!

251. What's Your Wealth Number?

According to Bloomberg, everyone has a "Wealth Number". Unsurprisingly, there are a lot more people with a low wealth number (-2 to 2: subsistence farmer) than a high wealth number (11: Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates).  The rest of us fit somewhere in between.  And it's comforting to know that the human soul can be represented by a number.

250. Thank God It's Monday is Back!

A computer can teach itself chess but can it be a creative, sentient being? Do we want it to be? Are computers going to feel angst, joy and sorrow? Will they feel those emotions artificially? Will they become angry at us?  Matty K and John muster as much intelligence as possible to discuss this big issue

247. A 4K Meditation Booth to Improve Worker Productivity

It is pretty widely accepted that even a few minutes of quiet meditation helps reduce stress and improves health.  The big rage is to squeeze out every last bit of productivity from the modern worker...so every company needs a $4,000 meditation booth!!! This contraption is basically a standard phone booth pre-smartphone era - and Matty K and John are designing a workplace Panic Room so you can screw and cry in privacy about your soul-sucking JOB!
